You might hate me...

...because I'm going to bring up Christmas already. Before Thanksgiving. Hell, it's still the first week of November.

But! I have a reason! I'd like to challenge you to buy more gifts/decorations/whatever locally this year, for your holiday celebrations. I'm bringing it up now because there are some incredible artisans that take custom orders, and you'll want to think about those ahead of time.

I don't believe buying everything locally is feasible for most of us, and I doubt I'll ever be the kind of person who does that. However, the more I shop local, the happier I become. I feel like I'm putting my money more directly into our local economy, which needs it. I'm directly supporting the businesses that I care about, and more of those dollars go toward things this city needs.

Plus it's fun! Did I mention the fun?!

If you don't have a slew of local businesses you already support, I'd suggest trolling Etsy's awesome Shop Local tool. Save yourself some postage and pick up the items yourself, if you're in the area.

What are your favorite Cincinnati-based businesses? How can you support them this holiday season? If I get a solid list of your favorite businesses I'll post it here, and I promise to try to buy from them soon!

The Gateway Quarter, Nov 27th will be hosting Holiday in the bag, Pick up a special bag and get 20% everything you can fit in it.

If you haven't been to 12th and Vine lately to see all the shops, go now, tonight, or better yet tomorrow afternoon.
If you can't find one thing to love in the Q, something is wrong with you.

My favs, Park+vine and Outside.
Dan at P+V will special order items for you if you don't see it in the store, my wife and I have a standing order for stuff.
When you go, tell him 5chw4r7z sent you!

5chw4r7z: Thanks for the heads up! I've only been to that area once, though Dan's been a few times. We'll have to check it out (and write it up!) soon, definitely.

I don't know if you have an unhealthy obsession with stationary and all things letter-writing like I do, but I recently found an amazing shop in Hyde Park, Poeme, that has great stuff. They also have a printing press and have started creating their own line, which I love. If you are ever in the area, you should definitely check them out. More info here: www.poeme-online.com

Also you can save yourself a trip to the tri-state thrift shops. Just check out my boyfriend's Etsy Cincinnati shop. It is weird but I think it is all the stuff my mom threw out.

He also makes handmade stationary items. Fabric covered notecards and notebooks. But it does not look like he has much online at the moment. But I am thinking he will have some Star Wars sheets turning into some cool items for Christmas.

Krystan: I'd heard of Poeme only because they did my friend Meredith's wedding stuff-- I'd love to check out their store!

Blacke: Loving that Etsy site, thank you for the link. Might have to hit that up, especially if your Star Wars prediction comes true. You know... for presents for OTHER people. Eep.

Next Saturday [November 21st] is the Crafty Supermarket at the Northside Tavern, where tons of design and craft vendors, from Cincinnati and other cities in the region, will be selling their wares:

My studio will have a booth; here's a look at what we make:

If you do check out the shops on and around Vine St., you'll see our work at Park+Vine, MiCA 12/v and Outside. Hooray for local shopping!

Also loving your Etsy store. I think I'm definitely going to have to do a post about everyone's responses here!
